Senator Angus King Endorses Hannah Pingree for Maine Governor

U.S. Senator Angus King endorsed Democratic nominee Hannah Pingree for Governor of Maine during a campaign event at Bowdoin College on Sunday. King, a former governor, cited Pingree's competence, toughness, and experience as the primary reasons for his support.

Pingree currently maintains a commanding lead in four public polls and has launched the general election's first television advertisement. Her platform focuses on affordability for healthcare, childcare, food, heating, and housing. To address property taxes, she proposes doubling the Homestead Exemption, expanding the Maine Property Tax Fairness Credit, and increasing tax requirements for non-resident owners of seasonal and investment properties.

Pingree, a former speaker of the Maine House, is running to succeed Governor Janet Mills. She faces Republican Robert "Bobby" Charles and Independent Rick Bennett in the November 3 election. The gubernatorial race is part of a larger election cycle in Maine that includes a U.S. Senate contest between Republican Susan Collins and Democrat Troy Jackson, as well as a race for the second congressional district between Democrat Matthew Dunlap and Republican Paul LePage.
