Prime Minister Demands PNM Evidence on Headquarters Funding
Kamla Persad-Bissessar called on the People’s National Movement to produce financial records after a court order demanded an explanation for its headquarters' construction costs.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has urged the People’s National Movement (PNM) to provide evidence proving the lawful funding of its Balisier House headquarters in Port of Spain. The demand follows a July 11, 2026, High Court order granted by Judge Margaret Mohammed, which compels the PNM and its trustees to explain construction costs under the Civil Asset Recovery and Management and Unexplained Wealth Act, 2019.
PNM Chairman Marvin Gonzales rejected the police investigation, describing it as a "political witch hunt" and a "public smear campaign" orchestrated by the United National Congress. Gonzales asserted that the party raised the necessary funds through lawful activities over a 15-year period.
Persad-Bissessar dismissed these accusations, stating that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the judiciary are independent institutions acting according to the rule of law. She challenged the PNM to produce accounts and records so the courts could determine the facts of the matter.
