Alphabet Nears $1 Billion Nuclear Energy Deal With Constellation
Alphabet Inc. is finalizing a deal worth over $1 billion to buy nuclear energy from Constellation Energy to power its AI data centers.
Alphabet Inc. is nearing a multi-year agreement worth $1 billion or more to purchase nuclear energy from Constellation Energy. The deal, which may be announced this week, is designed to meet the massive electricity demands of Google's data centers fueled by the artificial intelligence boom.
Constellation Energy, the largest reactor operator in the United States, has already established similar power agreements with other technology giants, including Amazon.com and Microsoft. These firms are increasingly turning to nuclear power as a source of steady, carbon-free energy to sustain their infrastructure.
This potential agreement follows other nuclear initiatives by Alphabet. The company previously partnered with NextEra Energy to restart a reactor in Iowa and provided funding to Southern Co for upgrades at two nuclear plants.
