Bangladesh and Sri Lanka Offer Aid to Flood-Hit Nepal

The Government of Nepal is coordinating international relief efforts after devastating floods and landslides caused widespread destruction, including 157 deaths in the Rasuwa district. On August 27, 2026, several regional neighbors and international organizations offered humanitarian support to manage the crisis.

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath spoke with Nepalese Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal to discuss disaster management. The Sri Lanka Disaster Management Centre is prepared to provide medical facilities and search operations. Similarly, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman held a telephone conversation with Khanal to express solidarity. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman conveyed condolences and a willingness to provide relief materials to the affected population.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu reported that while some Bangladeshi citizens were temporarily stranded on the Kathmandu-Pokhara highway due to road blocks, no deaths or injuries among its nationals occurred. Other international actors, including India, China, and the World Bank, have also inquired about the specific assistance required by Nepal.
