Amazon Web Services Report Shows AI Adoption Surge in Malaysia
Amazon Web Services reports that over 38 percent of Malaysian businesses now use AI tools, with total adoption reaching 3.4 million companies.
Amazon Web Services released a report titled Unlocking Malaysia's AI Potential 2026, revealing that more than 38 percent of Malaysian businesses now consistently use at least one artificial intelligence tool. This represents a significant increase from 27 percent in 2025, with approximately one million additional businesses adopting the technology over the past year to bring the total to more than 3.4 million.
Despite the rapid growth, the report indicates a lack of strategic depth in implementation. Approximately 67 percent of adopters focus on basic applications such as public chatbots, and only 19 percent have established a formal strategy for scaling AI across multiple business functions.
The financial services sector has emerged as the leader in maturity, with 64 percent of businesses moving beyond the experimentation phase and 39 percent implementing formal AI governance frameworks. Adoption remains heavily reliant on external support, as more than 57 percent of businesses source AI capabilities through external providers and 69 percent emphasize the importance of locally based software providers and developers.
