Uniper Identifies 10 European Sites for AI Data Centers

Uniper SE identified 10 former power plant sites across Europe for sale or lease to data-center developers to meet rising AI infrastructure demand.

Uniper SE identified approximately 10 sites across Europe for potential sale or lease to data-center developers to capitalize on the increasing demand for AI infrastructure. The portfolio includes four sites in the United Kingdom, three in Germany, two in Sweden, and one in the Netherlands. Three of these projects are currently in advanced stages, with investment decisions expected by the end of the year.

The German utility is repurposing former fossil-fuel power plants, which offer large industrial footprints and existing grid connections. This strategy is intended to increase investor appeal as the Federal Government of Germany prepares to sell its stake in the company following a multibillion-euro bailout during the 2022 energy crisis.

This shift follows similar industry trends. RWE AG previously sold a former UK coal plant to Amazon.com Inc. last year and has identified more than 10 other sites for similar development.
