Google Launches Premium Googlebook Laptops with Android-Based OS
Google released the Googlebook line of premium laptops featuring a new Android-based operating system and Gemini AI integration starting at $899.
Google launched the Googlebook, a new line of premium laptops designed to compete with macOS and Windows machines. The devices combine elements of ChromeOS and Android and are produced by hardware partners including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo under strict quality standards established by Google.
Starting at $899, the laptops feature high-end specifications such as OLED screens and 16GB of RAM. They run Googlebook OS, an Android-based system that integrates Gemini AI via a Magic Pointer tool and a voice dictation system called Rambler. The software also includes a better together system for deep integration with Android phones.
Early reviews describe the software as underbaked, noting that the devices currently function more as beta tests than polished products. Critics highlighted significant shortcomings, including unstable phone-linking capabilities, a limited version of the Chrome browser, and a lack of optimized desktop applications.
