Anthropic launched Claude Duet, a proactive AI agent powered by the Opus 5.5 model, designed for professionals and small business owners. Currently available as a research preview for Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the United States, the tool requires users to join a waitlist for access.
Operating on a standalone cloud-based virtual machine and browser, the agent can perform tasks independently even when users are offline. Its capabilities include managing payroll, finding unpaid invoices, building financial forecasts, and creating dashboards or decks. The agent integrates with Stripe, Link, and Shop Pay for financial operations, though it requires explicit user approval before deleting data or sending payments.
Unlike traditional chat interfaces, Claude Duet initiates contact with users through morning briefs and notifications when decisions are required. It is accessible via the web and standalone apps for iOS and Android. Anthropic noted that this early version may occasionally struggle with personal errands, such as booking tickets, or misread the urgency of certain tasks. During the research preview, the agent shares usage limits with the broader Claude ecosystem.
