USB Failure Delays South Carolina First District Vote Count

Nancy Lacore leads South Carolina's First Congressional District race after a technical failure in Dorchester County delayed the counting of 5,500 early voting ballots.

A technical failure involving USB sticks in Dorchester County delayed the counting of more than 5,500 early voting ballots during the race for South Carolina's First Congressional District. Nancy Lacore, the Democratic candidate, holds an unofficial lead of 3,308 votes over Republican Jenny Costa Honeycutt.

Kizzie Scott, executive director of the Dorchester County Board of Voter Registration and Elections, explained that the drives failed to upload results, potentially due to storage capacity limits. This failure required election officials to perform a manual re-scanning and hand-counting process to ensure accuracy. While Honeycutt initially suggested a mistake or miscalculation had occurred, she later conceded the race to Lacore.

Election officials completed a state-mandated audit on November 4. The process continues with a review of provisional ballots scheduled for November 6, followed by final certification at the Dorchester County Council Chambers.
