RNC Uncovers Hundreds of Noncitizens on New Jersey Voter Rolls

The Republican National Committee and the New Jersey Republican Party uncovered hundreds of noncitizens registered to vote across all 21 New Jersey counties following a series of public records requests. Many of the individuals, primarily registered as Democrats, self-reported their status and requested removal from the rolls to avoid jeopardizing their naturalization processes. Several registrants attributed their status to accidental enrollment through the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission's digital licensing and opt-out systems.

While the majority of these individuals had no voting history, records indicate at least 30 cases of noncitizens casting ballots in municipal, primary, and federal elections between 2000 and 2008. In Atlantic County alone, more than 50 removals were documented. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission defended its registration processes, stating that such instances are exceedingly rare.

Chairman Joe Gruters described the findings as the tip of the iceberg and criticized the lack of transparency in Democratic-run states. In response, Gruters launched a nationwide election integrity effort, deploying staff to 17 states and seeking voter roll access in Delaware, Maryland, Hawaii, and Nevada. This initiative coincides with a legal challenge to state laws regarding the counting of late-arriving mail ballots.
