Vijay Accuses DMK of Corruption Over Library Book Procurement
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay accused the DMK of systemic corruption after irregularities were found in book procurement for the Periyar Arivulagam library.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) of systemic corruption following the discovery of procurement irregularities at the Periyar Arivulagam in Coimbatore. Vijay alleged that the previous DMK regime used a recommendation committee to procure substandard books, turning the knowledge center into a "world of corruption." He credited author Perumal Murugan for flagging the issues and claimed the DMK has a history of looting public money across various state departments.
On November 7, the DMK responded by filing a complaint with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) to investigate the misappropriation of public funds. DMK MLA I Paranthaman alleged that the library contains fake and AI-generated books from Akalvilakku and Phoenix publications, noting that one author, Monica Ravi, had 162 books published within six months.
The DMK accused the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government of using its IT wing to spread false narratives rather than addressing the procurement failures. Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin defended the previous administration, stating he is confident that no irregularities occurred during the DMK's tenure in government.
