Paraguay and Venezuela Hold Talks to Restore Diplomatic Ties

Santiago Pena, the President of Paraguay, arrived in Caracas, Venezuela, on September 19, 2026, to meet with acting President Delcy Rodriguez. The visit marks the first significant diplomatic effort to restore institutional contacts between the two nations since Paraguay severed bilateral relations in January 2019.

Meeting at the Miraflores Palace, the leaders focused on a gradual normalization of ties. Their agenda includes discussions on trade, the restoration of consular services, and the resolution of outstanding financial and energy issues.
