Apple to Launch iPhone Ultra Foldable in September

Apple Inc. plans to announce its first foldable smartphone, internally called the iPhone Ultra, in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The book-style device features a 5.4-inch external display and a 7.8-inch internal screen, with estimated pricing ranging from $2,000 to $2,500.

Production challenges have complicated the rollout. Hon Hai Precision Industry adjusted mass production plans in late July following setbacks with the foldable display and hinge. While the Pro models are slated for September, these issues may push the iPhone Ultra's release to October. Apple aims to produce seven million units in the second half of 2026, but supply constraints will likely result in a staggered global launch. The United States is expected to receive the device first, while other markets like China will follow, and Australia may face delays of up to three months.

The iPhone 18 Pro models will feature the A20 Pro chip, variable aperture cameras, a smaller Dynamic Island, and new satellite capabilities. In contrast, Apple has reportedly delayed the standard iPhone 18 and a second-generation iPhone Air until the first half of 2027. This shift focuses the 2026 lineup on premium devices amid a global memory shortage.
