Studsvik Partners With GE Vernova and Samsung for Nuclear Expansion

Studsvik, a Swedish nuclear technology company, has partnered with GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy and Samsung C&T to develop up to 1.2 gigawatts of new nuclear capacity. The initial phase of the project focuses on the deployment of four BWRX-300 small modular reactors, with the first unit projected to be operational by the mid-2030s.

Under the agreement, Studsvik will manage government relations, environmental assessments, and permitting. GE Vernova Hitachi serves as the design authority and will lead cost estimation and licensing, while Samsung C&T joins the execution team. Financing for the initiative is led by DS Investment Partners, supported by advisory and structuring services from GE Vernova Financial Services.

The project site will be located south of Stockholm, with selection pending between Nykoping and Valdemarsvik. This expansion supports broader Swedish government reforms aimed at increasing national nuclear capacity to 10 gigawatts by 2045 through streamlined permitting and state-backed loans.
