Recent instances of this tactic include the disclosure of 36 million pounds in donations from crypto billionaires Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne, as well as a 5 million pound gift to Nigel Farage. In both cases, other publications had already approached the party for comment before the stories appeared in the Telegraph.

Internal reactions at the Telegraph are divided, with some staff expressing significant unease over the practice, while other insiders claim the newspaper was unaware that other outlets were already working on the stories.
