SMEs in Australasia Adopt Inference-as-a-Service to Cut AI Costs

Small and medium enterprises in Australia and New Zealand are using inference-as-a-service to lower GPU and operational costs compared to hyperscale cloud providers.

Atturra is providing inference-as-a-service to small and medium enterprises in Australia and New Zealand to combat the high operational costs and GPU requirements of AI workloads. This model offers a cost-effective alternative to hyperscale cloud services, with some implementations costing only one-quarter to one-third of equivalent hyperscaler capacity. Atturra delivers these services through infrastructure-as-a-service and full-service hosting of AI applications.

Concrete implementations of this technology include a co-created capability for iTronics Group to analyze security surveillance feeds in real-time. Additionally, Nuix uses the service to accelerate fraud investigations and regulatory data analysis for corporate and government clients.

This adoption follows a significant expansion of the Australian AI sector. According to figures from the Parliament of Australia, the number of AI companies in the country grew from approximately 650 in late 2024 to at least 1,533 by mid-2025.
