Lockheed Martin Debuts PAC-3 Edge Hypersonic Interceptor
Lockheed Martin unveiled the PAC-3 Edge interceptor to counter hypersonic threats as the U.S. Army advances the system to the next development stage.
Lockheed Martin debuted the PAC-3 Edge, a next-generation interceptor designed to counter hypersonic and advanced missile threats. The system is a key entry in the United States Army's Future Interceptor program competition, and the Army has progressed the company into the next stage of development.
The interceptor integrates a seeker from the Lockheed Martin Strigo Product Center and a multi-pulse solid rocket motor designed by Northrop Grumman Corporation. These components are intended to increase precision, maneuverability, and performance at longer ranges and higher altitudes. The system is designed for integration with existing Integrated Air and Missile Defense capabilities, including the Integrated Battle Command System and HIMARS Flex.
Lockheed Martin plans to begin testing the interceptor in 2027, with a target for rapid deployment by 2031.
