Joe Neguse Runs for House Assistant Speaker

Representative Joe Neguse of Colorado announced his candidacy for assistant speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives for the 120th Congress. The bid follows midterm elections that resulted in Democrats securing a majority in both the House and the Senate.

Neguse, who was recently elected to a fifth term representing Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District, currently serves as the assistant Democratic leader. He previously chaired the House Democrats’ litigation task force. If elected, the 42-year-old would become the youngest person to ever hold the assistant speaker position.

Neguse is currently running unopposed for the role. Leadership elections for House Democrats are scheduled for November 18 and 19, ahead of the 120th Congress convening on January 3.
