Anthropic Files for Historic IPO With $1.5 Trillion Valuation
Anthropic has filed for an initial public offering on the Nasdaq, seeking a valuation up to $1.75 trillion to fund massive AI infrastructure spending.
AI developer Anthropic has filed an S-1 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering on the Nasdaq, likely debuting before Thanksgiving. The company is conducting an institutional investor roadshow to raise between $80 billion and $100 billion, with valuation targets shifting from early rumors of $2 trillion to a current range between $1.25 trillion and $1.75 trillion.
The filing reveals an unprecedented capital strategy. Anthropic has committed approximately $895.4 billion for compute and infrastructure, including lease agreements with Broadcom Inc, Google, and SpaceXAI. This spending supports a strategic pivot called Anthropic Direct, where the company is moving from renting compute power to leasing and managing its own hardware to reduce reliance on cloud competitors. While the company reported $11.55 billion in revenue and brief profitability in the second quarter of 2026, it also reported a net loss of $80.75 billion.
The IPO arrives amid a challenging political climate. Recent U.S. midterm elections showed strong voter support for stricter AI regulation and widespread rejection of data center expansions. CEO Dario Amodei has attributed this souring sentiment to a crisis of trust. Despite these headwinds, the debut is viewed as a financial litmus test for the frontier model sector that could either validate private valuations for competitors like OpenAI or force a sector-wide reset.
