Trump Administration Launches Science A New Golden Age Blueprint
The Trump administration introduced a scientific innovation blueprint to integrate superintelligence across the federal government and shift research funding toward private sector partnerships.
The Trump administration has introduced a new scientific innovation blueprint titled Science: A New Golden Age. The plan aims to accelerate discovery by integrating superintelligence—the administration's term for artificial intelligence—across the federal government.
Michael Kratsios, the president's top science and technology adviser, detailed a shift away from traditional university-centric research toward an ecosystem involving national labs and private sector partnerships. A central component of this strategy is the Genesis Mission, a federal scientific instrument hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office that provides superintelligence tools to various government agencies.
To cultivate domestic STEM talent, the administration is implementing a four-year Ph.D. program in partnership with industry and relaunching the National Science Foundation's Young Scholars Program. The government is also targeting grant distribution patterns at the National Institute of Mental Health to favor younger scientists.
While the administration proposed the largest R&D budget in U.S. history for fiscal year 2027, it is prioritizing high return on investment over total spending. This approach involves reallocating funds away from legacy academic structures and toward superintelligence-driven research.
