bp and Louisiana Settle Deepwater Horizon Coastal Lawsuits

bp will pay Louisiana $350 million in an accelerated settlement to resolve remaining coastal zone lawsuits from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon accident.

The energy company bp and the State of Louisiana reached an agreement on October 23, 2026, to resolve long-standing legal and financial disputes stemming from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon accident. Under the terms signed by bp CEO Meg O'Neill and Louisiana officials, the company will provide a single early payment of approximately $350 million to the state.

This payment accelerates funds that were originally scheduled for delivery over the next seven years. The settlement also resolves all remaining coastal zone lawsuits brought against the company by Louisiana parishes.

Governor Jeff Landry stated the agreement aims to clean up the litigation environment for the oil and gas industry to encourage economic growth. bp leadership noted that the settlement strengthens the company's foundation for future operations within the state.
