Nikkei 225 Rises 1.42 Percent on Tech and Finance Gains
The Nikkei 225 Index climbed to 68,481.35 on Thursday, driven by technology and financial stocks despite declines in the automotive sector.
The Nikkei 225 Index rose 1.42 percent to 68,481.35 on Thursday, extending a two-session winning streak. Gains were primarily driven by technology and financial stocks, with notable surges in Advantest, Toppan Holdings, and Mizuho Financial. SoftBank Group shares gained more than 2 percent, while Fast Retailing shares declined by 0.3 percent.
These gains were partially offset by losses in the automotive sector, where Toyota shares edged down 0.2 percent and Honda Motor Company shares fell nearly 1 percent. The market movement followed a mixed session on Wall Street, where the Nasdaq and S&P 500 closed higher while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped slightly.
In related economic news, the Bank of Japan reported that producer prices in Japan rose 7.2 percent year-on-year in July. This figure was slightly lower than the expected 7.4 percent increase.
