Wipro Commits $500 Million to AI Start-ups and Platforms
Wipro Limited is pivoting to an AI-native business model with a $500 million investment in start-ups following a shift in client demand toward execution.
During its 80th Annual General Meeting on July 15, 2026, Wipro Limited announced a strategic pivot toward a platform-plus-services model to meet a shift in client demand from AI experimentation to core business integration. The company is establishing an AI Native Business and Platforms Unit and committing $500 million through Wipro Ventures to support AI and security start-ups.
Executive Chairman Rishad Premji and CEO Srini Pallia reported that the company is serving as its own first customer for these transformations, successfully reducing monthly financial closing cycles to eight hours. Wipro is further investing in its Wipro Intelligence suite and developing domain-specific small language models to lower operating costs for its clients. This strategy follows the completion of a multi-year data center migration for food wholesaler METRO to create an AI-ready infrastructure.
Financial results for FY26 showed IT services revenue of $10.5 billion, representing a 1.6 percent decline in constant currency. However, total bookings grew 14 percent to $16.4 billion. Additionally, Wipro subsidiary Capco received recognition from OpenAI on June 26 for its leadership in responsible AI and innovation, positioning the consultancy to guide clients through domain-specific AI adoption.
