Defence Minister Orders Security Personnel to Kill Bandits on Sight
Minister of Defence Christopher Musa ordered security personnel in Sokoto to neutralize terrorists immediately without waiting for superior authorization.
Minister of Defence Christopher Gwabin Musa directed security personnel in Sokoto State on Wednesday to engage and neutralize bandits and terrorists immediately without waiting for orders from superiors. Speaking during the commissioning of new security assets, Musa warned that any operative who hesitates to act under the guise of awaiting authorization will be treated as a collaborator or "like a bandit."
While demanding aggressive action against criminals, Musa cautioned troops to maintain professionalism and strictly avoid extorting or harassing civilians. He emphasized that the equipment was purchased with taxpayer money and must be properly maintained, stating that the government will assess the condition of the assets after one year.
The directives coincided with the delivery of a security package procured by the Sokoto State Government valued between ₦27.127 billion and ₦27.6 billion. The procurement includes 62 operational vehicles, such as Buffalo Armoured Personnel Carriers and bulletproof vehicles, 320 motorcycles, thermal imaging devices, and various tactical gadgets.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu stated the investment is necessary to address security threats in Sokoto's eastern corridor due to its proximity to the Republic of Niger and the states of Zamfara and Katsina. Aliyu announced a proposed bill to introduce stiffer penalties for informants aiding bandits and the establishment of a Command and Control Centre for improved surveillance. In honor of the visit, the governor named a major road in the Sokoto metropolis General Christopher Musa Road.
