Anambra State Requests ₦70 Billion Federal Stabilisation Fund
The Anambra State Government requested ₦70 billion from the federal Stabilisation Fund to combat insecurity, severe erosion, and infrastructure deficits.
The Government of Anambra State has requested ₦70 billion from the Federal Government’s Stabilisation Fund to address critical deficits in security, environmental management, and infrastructure. Secretary to the State Government Chiamaka Nnake presented the request to the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) during a technical session in Abuja.
Nnake detailed how insecurity and "sit-at-home" orders have disrupted commerce and weakened investor confidence. She specifically highlighted an environmental crisis involving over 1,000 erosion sites affecting 146 communities, noting that fully resolving the erosion issues would require an estimated ₦170 billion. The requested ₦70 billion is intended to support security equipment, healthcare, education, agriculture, and tourism.
Prof. Olusegun Adekunle Wright, Chairman of the RMAFC Indices and Disbursement Committee, clarified that the initial technical review does not constitute automatic approval. The commission will now scrutinize the state's financial records and project feasibility. The process will include on-the-spot assessments of the proposed projects before the committee makes a final recommendation to the full plenary.
