Stellantis Acquires Full Ownership of India Manufacturing Plant

Stellantis has bought out the CK Birla Group's stake in its Indian joint venture to triple production at its Tamil Nadu facility by 2027.

Stellantis has acquired full ownership of its Indian manufacturing operations by buying out the stake held by Hindustan Motor Finance Corporation Ltd, a CK Birla Group company. The transaction, funded through Foreign Direct Investment, gives the automaker total control of its manufacturing facility in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, which currently produces Citroën models including the C3, ë-C3, C3 Aircross, and Basalt.

As part of its Fastlane 2030 strategy, the company plans to ramp up annual production from approximately 18,000 units in 2026 to 50,000 units by 2027 for both domestic and export markets. By 2027, Stellantis intends to shift its production mix to 40 percent domestic and 60 percent exports. This expansion is expected to more than double the direct workforce from roughly 600 employees.

Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director of Stellantis India, stated that full ownership will enable faster decision-making and deeper operational integration. The company has invested over 1 billion euros (approximately ₹11,000 crore) in India to date and is currently negotiating with the Tamil Nadu government for additional investment linked to the production increase.
