India Partners With 11 Nations to Secure Critical Minerals

The Government of India has entered into partnerships and cooperation arrangements with 11 countries to secure reliable access to critical minerals necessary for semiconductor manufacturing, defense production, and clean energy technologies. The partner nations include Australia, Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Peru, Japan, Zambia, Mozambique, Mongolia, and the United States.

Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita detailed these efforts in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on July 30, 2026. To supplement these bilateral ties, India is engaging in multilateral initiatives, including the Mineral Security Partnership, the Forum on Responsible Geostrategic Engagement, and the Quad framework on critical minerals.

Domestically, the government launched the National Critical Mineral Mission to strengthen the value chain from exploration and mining through to processing. Additionally, India implemented an incentive scheme to promote the recycling of minerals from waste and scrap.
