UK Government Moves August Bank Holiday Benefit Payments Early

The Department for Work and Pensions announced that benefit payments scheduled for the August 31 bank holiday will instead be issued on Friday, August 28. This adjustment affects several allowances, including Universal Credit, State Pensions, Child Benefit, and Personal Independence Payment. Payments scheduled for dates other than the bank holiday remain unchanged.

Minister for Social Security and Disability Sir Stephen Timms stated the move ensures families and older people receive their money without disruption. While the payment amounts are not changing, the agency noted that claimants will need to make funds last longer until the regular payment schedule resumes.

The early payment schedule applies across the entire United Kingdom, including Scotland, regardless of regional differences in bank holiday dates. Some experts have warned that shifting the payment timing could disrupt budgeting for claimants currently facing the cost-of-living crisis.
