Democratic Alliance Launches 'Working for All' Local Election Manifesto

The Democratic Alliance launched its local government elections manifesto on August 8, 2026, at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Johannesburg. Operating under the theme "Working for All," the party presented a platform focused on job creation, anti-corruption, and the restoration of basic infrastructure and service delivery ahead of the November 4 elections.

DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis unveiled the manifesto as a practical and financially feasible plan rooted in the party's governance experience. Federal chairperson Solly Msimanga characterized the document as a contract with voters, stating that the party intends to transition from an opposition force to a governing body across all South African municipalities. Msimanga positioned the party as a credible alternative to the African National Congress, specifically targeting Johannesburg to improve water and road maintenance.

The event included addresses from mayoral candidates Helen Zille, Cilliers Brink, and Khathutshelo Rasilingwane. Party leadership emphasized a move toward broader municipal control to rescue the country from corruption and financial instability in local governance.
