Petrobras Signs 20-Year LNG Deal With Sempra Infrastructure

Petrobras signed a 20-year sales and purchase agreement with Sempra Infrastructure at the end of August 2026 to secure approximately 0.8 million tonnes per annum of liquefied natural gas. The supply will be sourced from the Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project in Jefferson County, Texas, which is currently under construction.

Petrobras intends to use these long-term volumes to strengthen its risk management and reduce its exposure to spot market volatility. Sempra Infrastructure is expanding the Port Arthur facility's total liquefaction capacity from 13 million tonnes per annum in Phase 1 to approximately 26 million tonnes upon the completion of Phase 2.

Commercial operations for the Phase 2 project are expected to begin in 2030 and 2031. Justin Bird, CEO of Sempra Infrastructure, stated that the agreement establishes a strategic relationship with one of the world's leading energy companies and marks the first time a South American company has joined the firm's LNG customer portfolio.
