BJP Wins Key Legislative Council Seats in Karnataka and Bihar

The Bharatiya Janata Party secured significant victories in Legislative Council elections across Karnataka and Bihar, defeating Congress and independent rivals.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved key victories in Legislative Council elections across two Indian states. In Karnataka, BJP candidate Shashil G. Namoshi won the North-East Teachers Constituency for the fifth time, defeating Congress rival Sharanappa Mattur by 3,297 votes. Namoshi secured 15,596 first preference votes, surpassing the winning quota of 14,191. Following the result, Namoshi stated he would continue to work to address teachers' grievances and suggested the outcome signals the political climate ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.

Simultaneously, the BJP and its National Democratic Alliance partners led initial results in the Bihar Legislative Council biennial elections for eight seats. BJP candidate Narendra Prasad Singh won the Tirhut Teachers’ seat with 2,945 votes, defeating independent Bhushan Jha. The NDA also maintained leads in the Kosi Graduates' and Patna Teachers’ constituencies.

Other regional developments included a lead for the Jan Suraaj Party in the Darbhanga Teachers’ constituency. In Bihar, internal conflict emerged within the Janata Dal (United), which suspended MLA Anant Singh for six years after he campaigned against the party's official nominee, Neeraj Kumar, in the Patna Graduates’ contest.
