Kashim Shettima Commissions 33.5km Dual Carriageway in Rivers State
Vice President Kashim Shettima commissioned the Elele-Egbeda-Omoku dual carriageway in Rivers State to boost economic development and improve regional security.
Vice President Kashim Shettima commissioned the 33.5-kilometre Elele-Egbeda-Omoku dual carriageway in Rivers State on August 20, 2026. Representing President Bola Tinubu, Shettima stated that the infrastructure is critical for expanding economic opportunities and reducing logistics costs for farmers and traders, noting that such projects demonstrate the continuity of government across administrations.
The road connects the Ikwerre, Emohua, and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Areas and includes a 99-metre river-crossing bridge and full illumination. Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who funded the project through the state government, described the completion as a fulfilled promise of his administration.
Fubara asserted that the improved road and lighting would enhance security by hindering the operations of kidnappers and oil bunkering criminals, who previously used the route as a corridor. He suggested that the project's successful delivery could strengthen his party's position in the 2027 elections.
