U.S. Clean Energy Investment Hits $75 Billion in Q2
U.S. clean energy and transportation investment rose to $75 billion in the second quarter of 2026, driven by a surge in consumer electric vehicle spending.
U.S. investment in clean energy and transportation reached $75 billion in the second quarter of 2026, marking a 4% increase from the previous year. The Clean Investment Monitor reported that a 21% surge in consumer spending on battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, residential battery storage, and electric heat pumps drove the rebound, totaling $41 billion.
Utility-scale solar and battery installations remained a significant investment source at $19 billion, though this figure represents a 5% decline compared to the same period last year. In the long-duration energy storage sector, Form Energy raised $750 million and Antora Energy raised $550 million to expand production of iron-based and thermal batteries, respectively, to meet power demands from data centers.
To stimulate market recovery after the Trump administration removed a $7,500 federal rebate, California launched a new rebate program offering up to $3,500 for first-time electric vehicle buyers.
