UK and Poland Sign Warsaw Defence Plan

British Defence Secretary Wes Streeting and Polish Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz signed a three-year military pact to deter Russian threats and strengthen NATO's eastern flank.

British Defence Secretary Wes Streeting and Polish Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz signed the Warsaw Defence Plan in Warsaw on Tuesday. The three-year agreement establishes a framework for military exercises and capability development designed to deter Russian threats and strengthen the eastern flank of NATO.

The pact focuses on the joint development and production of drones, counter-drone technologies, and next-generation air defence missiles. The two nations will also increase cybersecurity cooperation and maritime security, specifically through shared patrols in the Baltic Sea to protect seabed communications cables. The agreement includes sharing technical lessons from the development of Britain's Type 31 and Poland's Miecznik frigates.

Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that Poland would work to bring Britain closer to the European Union, specifically by seeking ways for the UK to benefit from the EU's SAFE defence financing program. He further emphasized that transatlantic cooperation with the United States remains essential.
