DSGMC Condemns AAP Protest at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib

Harmeet Singh Kalka accused the Aam Aadmi Party of politicizing Gurdwara Bangla Sahib after protesters staged a demonstration at the sacred site.

The president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), Harmeet Singh Kalka, condemned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for allegedly using Gurdwara Bangla Sahib as a venue for political protests on October 11. Kalka reported that 150 to 200 AAP protesters staged a demonstration with banners and slogans in the gurdwara's Pyaau area, violating the site's code of conduct.

Kalka accused AAP MLAs of engaging in dirty politics by attempting to link the demonstration to upcoming elections in Punjab. He asserted that religious institutions are sacred spaces for prayer and not arenas for political battles, suggesting that protesters should instead target Parliament or the specific entities they oppose.

Delhi Police entered the premises to detain the protesters but did not enter the main prayer hall. However, Kalka criticized the presence of uniformed officers on the grounds. The Delhi Police have since launched legal action against individuals circulating a video showing officers wearing shoes on the premises, claiming the footage was shared with malicious intent to harm communal harmony.

The DSGMC is currently reviewing CCTV footage to determine how the protesters gained entry to the premises.
