American Express Launches AI Expense Platform for Middle-Market Firms
American Express launched an AI-powered expense-management platform and corporate cashback card to compete with fintech rivals like Ramp and Brex.
American Express launched a new expense-management platform and its first integrated corporate cashback card designed for middle-market businesses with annual revenues between $10 million and $300 million. The platform includes a mobile app that automates spending reports and flags policy violations, aiming to provide companies with greater control and transparency over expenses.
The initiative follows the acquisitions of Center in April 2025 and the AI-driven platform Hyper. To further enhance the offering, the company plans to introduce AI agents later this year for spend-data analysis and expense recommendations. American Express also intends to expand into accounts payable software to automate invoice intake and reconciliation.
This strategic shift is a direct response to competition from fintech firms such as Ramp and Brex. Leadership has prioritized the corporate business sector as a primary engine for growth, with plans to continue building out software for business memberships.
