Oladipupo Adebutu Campaigns in Ogun State Despite INEC Omission
Oladipupo Adebutu is mobilizing support for the 2027 Ogun governorship election while challenging his omission from the official INEC candidate list.
PDP gubernatorial candidate Oladipupo Adebutu is conducting ward-to-ward tours across Ogun State to promote his seven-point ITURA DE agenda, which focuses on agricultural mechanization, road repairs, and youth employment. The campaign emphasizes an Ogun for Ogun mandate, advocating for the state to be governed by an indigene rather than an outsider.
These mobilization efforts coincide with a legal dispute after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) omitted Adebutu and his running mate, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, from the list of eligible candidates for the 2027 election. INEC Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee Mohammed Haruna stated the commission upheld 66 petitions challenging candidate lists, citing non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 regarding party membership registers.
Adebutu dismissed the omission as a temporary distraction and an attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to stifle the opposition. He defended his party standing by citing his 20-year history with the PDP and his funding of a registration drive for nearly 20,000 members. Despite the hurdle, the PDP has seen a surge in support, welcoming over 1,000 defectors from the APC in Abeokuta and witnessing further defections in the Alapakooni community, where members burned brooms to symbolize their departure from the ruling party.
