Pakistan Briefs Canada on Makkah Joint Defence Agreement

Ishaq Dar, the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, held a telephonic conversation with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on August 9, 2026, to discuss diplomatic relations and regional security. During the call, Dar briefed Anand on the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, a pact signed between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye to enhance regional peace, stability, and security.

The two officials addressed the evolving relationship between the United States and Iran, as well as the situation in Occupied East Jerusalem. They specifically discussed the outcomes of a recent Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem held in Jordan.

The conversation concluded with both parties agreeing to maintain close engagement on shared interests. Dar expressed appreciation for Anand's recent visit to Pakistan.
