Americas Car-Mart Negotiates Sale Amid Severe Liquidity Crisis

Americas Car-Mart is negotiating a sale of its business to resolve a liquidity crunch and a $300 million loan default.

Americas Car-Mart Inc, a used-car dealer and subprime auto lender, is in active negotiations with senior lenders to sell the company. The business is facing a severe liquidity crunch and mounting debt pressures after defaulting in June on a $300 million term loan provided by Silver Point Capital.

Company leadership and lenders are currently debating whether to execute the sale through a traditional shareholder vote or a court-supervised Chapter 11 bankruptcy process. While the company has previously operated under short-dated forbearance extensions, lenders have granted a final reprieve until October 22 to finalize a restructuring framework.

Financial instability has caused the company's stock to plummet more than 99% from its all-time high. Despite the broader crisis, the company's asset-backed securitization trusts are expected to remain untouched in any transaction because they remain over-collateralized.
