Automakers Urge Congress to Ban Chinese Vehicles
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation requested that the U.S. Congress pass a permanent ban on Chinese vehicles to mitigate surveillance risks and protect domestic manufacturers.
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, representing major automakers such as General Motors, Toyota, and Volkswagen, urged the United States Congress to implement a permanent ban on Chinese vehicles. The request coincides with the return of lawmakers for a session following the midterm congressional elections.
This push follows a September agreement by bipartisan Senate sponsors to delay the fast-tracking of such a ban until November. John Bozzella, head of the Alliance, argued that the measure is necessary to protect the U.S. market from Chinese imports that carry surveillance risks and disadvantage manufacturers that have made generational investments in American communities.
