Amit Shah Reviews Border Security in Siliguri Corridor

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting Siliguri to review security in the strategic Chicken Neck corridor and inaugurate infrastructure projects for the Sashastra Seema Bal.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is conducting a multi-day visit to West Bengal, with primary engagements in Siliguri on August 21 and 22. The visit focuses on a strategic security assessment of the Siliguri Corridor, also known as the Chicken Neck, which serves as the critical transit point connecting mainland India to its northeastern states.

Shah is scheduled to chair a high-level review meeting at Hotel Mayfair to enhance coordination among security agencies. This meeting includes Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Intelligence Bureau Director Mahesh Dixit. As part of the security review, Shah will visit the Sashastra Seema Bal Frontier Headquarters to lay the foundation for new infrastructure projects and interact with personnel during a traditional Bara Khana meal.

Beyond security operations, Shah will attend a public program and exhibition at Kawakhali Ground. The event aims to promote the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, the three new criminal laws that replaced colonial-era legal frameworks on July 1, 2024.
