Congress Distances Itself From Kerala Unit's CJI Resignation Demand
Congress leader Pawan Khera rejected a social media post by the party's Kerala unit demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Surya Kant.
Congress leader Pawan Khera distanced the Indian National Congress from a social media post published and subsequently deleted by the party's Kerala unit. The post had demanded the resignation of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Khera stated the party "completely disagrees" with the position and maintains "absolute faith" in the judiciary, noting that the party approached the apex court specifically because of its confidence in the institution.
Other opposition figures offered varying responses to the controversy. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Mahua Majhi expressed disagreement with the demand for the Chief Justice's resignation. In contrast, CPI(M) MP V Sivadasan warned that opposition struggles against alleged institutional biases and anti-democratic electoral interventions would continue even if the Supreme Court fails to address the matter.
Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai refrained from direct attacks on the judiciary but stated the nation felt "deeply disappointed." While some leaders affirmed their respect for the court, others shifted their criticism toward the central government and the Election Commission.
