Carowinds Shuts Down Fury 325 Coaster Over Foundation Issue

Carowinds shut down its Fury 325 roller coaster on July 7 after a routine inspection revealed a foundation issue requiring state-supervised repairs.

Carowinds shut down its Fury 325 giga coaster on July 7, 2026, after a routine maintenance inspection identified an issue with a ride foundation. The park immediately removed the attraction from service, self-reported the discovery to state regulators, and began corrective repairs. Park officials stated the foundation issue did not impact guest safety and that the closure was an abundance of caution.

Luke Farley, Commissioner of the North Carolina Department of Labor, issued a formal shutdown order to ensure the ride is not operated prematurely. The department requires a complete re-inspection and must be fully satisfied with the safety of the ride before it can reopen. Carowinds has not provided a definitive timetable for the reopening, asserting that safety processes will not be rushed.

This incident marks the second major closure for the ride in three years. In June 2023, the coaster was closed for several months after cracks appeared in steel support pillars. A March 2024 report from the North Carolina Department of Labor attributed those failures to unidirectional bending fatigue. That ride eventually reopened in August 2023 following the installation of a new column and a final inspection by the state's Elevator and Amusement Device Bureau. All other attractions at the park remain operational.
