Rivian Acquires Third Dimension AI to Boost Autonomous Simulation
Rivian Automotive Inc. acquired Third Dimension AI to integrate AI-powered 3D spatial generation technology into its autonomous driving testing and validation systems.
Rivian Automotive Inc. acquired Third Dimension AI Inc. to integrate AI-powered 3D spatial generation technology into its autonomous driving systems. The acquisition provides Rivian with a simulation platform capable of converting real-world data into controllable 3D environments, allowing the company to recreate and vary complex driving scenarios for testing driver assistance and self-driving systems without relying on rare real-world occurrences.
Founded in 2024 by Tolga Kart and Piotr Sokolski, Third Dimension AI will see its leadership and technical staff join Rivian's autonomy research and engineering teams. James Philbin, Rivian's SVP of Autonomy and AI, noted that simulation is central to how the company trains and validates its autonomous systems, praising the technology for turning real-world data into detailed 3D environments.
Rivian did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
