Amazon and Insurify Block Meta's Muse AI Agent

Meta has released Muse, a consumer AI agent capable of performing autonomous tasks such as managing financial data, filling out forms, and making phone calls. While the agent can interact with services like Ticketmaster and OpenTable, several major platforms have blocked its access to protect their data and security.

Amazon.com, Inc. blocked Muse from browsing and purchasing on its site effective September 20, 2026. The company cited security risks regarding the capture of customer credentials and stated that third-party applications should respect service provider decisions. Amazon now displays a popup warning users that unauthorized AI access violates its Conditions of Use. This move follows Meta's refusal to exclude Amazon from the Muse experience.

Similarly, the insurance marketplace Insurify blocked Muse to prevent automated scraping. Insurify argued that the agent strips critical contextual information—including coverage limits and deductibles—from insurance quotes, reducing them to bare price lists. The company also warned that bulk quoting by AI agents could trigger unnecessary paid data checks, potentially raising consumer premiums.

While some platforms resist the technology, Shopify partnered with Meta on September 22 to enable agentic checkout via Shop Pay. The legal landscape for these blocks remains fluid; in August 2026, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that AI agents acting on user instructions do not necessarily violate the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
