Intel Corporation shares rose approximately 7.6% on Thursday after reports emerged that the company is in exploratory talks with SK Hynix. The potential agreement would involve SK Hynix utilizing Intel's planned fabrication facilities in Ohio, either through a lease of the facility or the formation of a joint venture.
While no formal deal has been reached, the prospect of securing a major customer for Intel's struggling Foundry business has driven investor optimism. This stock gain coincided with a broader market rally characterized by falling bond yields and oil prices. Intel's second-quarter revenue recently increased 25% to $16.1 billion.
Analysts suggest that any final agreement between the two companies may face regulatory scrutiny from the United States and South Korean governments. The Foundry business remains a central part of the turnaround strategy led by CEO Lip-Bu Tan.
