Rajasthan Schedules Mayoral Elections for Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Kota

The Rajasthan State Election Commission has scheduled mayoral elections for the Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Kota Municipal Corporations, as well as the Chairperson of Suket Municipality, for September 25. The commission also issued a public notice for chairperson elections across 305 other urban local bodies.

Candidates are permitted to submit nomination papers on September 18 and 19, followed by scrutiny on September 21 and a withdrawal deadline of September 22. These polls follow recent urban local body elections where the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a majority in the Jaipur Municipal Corporation, winning 78 of 150 wards. The Indian National Congress won 53 seats in Jaipur, while independents took 15.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to form boards in Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, and Bhilwara. Conversely, the Indian National Congress holds a clear majority in the Bikaner Municipal Corporation. During the process, Jaipur District Collector Sandesh Nayak reported technical issues with Electronic Voting Machines in four wards.
