Akamai Technologies Signs $11.6 Billion Cloud Deal With Anthropic

Akamai Technologies announced an $11.6 billion partnership with Anthropic on Thursday to provide cloud services over the next seven years. This agreement expands a previous $1.8 billion deal signed in May and stands as the largest contract in the history of the company. The total value of the partnership could reach $20 billion if an additional $9 billion in revenue commitments are met.

To support the infrastructure requirements of the deal, Akamai will invest $5.5 billion over the next two years. The company estimates annual revenue from the partnership will reach $1.7 billion after 2028. As part of the arrangement, Akamai issued a warrant allowing Anthropic to purchase 7.7 million shares of common stock, which represents approximately a five percent stake in the company.

Chief Executive Tom Leighton stated the agreement positions the company as the infrastructure provider for the next generation of AI powered applications.
