SEC and FDA Sign Pact to Boost Life Sciences Transparency
The SEC and FDA signed a memorandum of understanding to increase information-sharing and oversight of financial disclosures by public life sciences companies.
The United States Securities and Exchange Commission and the Food and Drug Administration signed a Memorandum of Understanding on August 31, 2026, to increase cooperation in regulatory and enforcement activities. The agreement establishes a framework for information-sharing protocols designed to improve market oversight and ensure the integrity of financial markets, specifically regarding disclosures by public companies in the life sciences sector.
SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins stated that FDA-related disclosures by public companies have a significant impact on markets. He described the FDA as a valuable partner in efforts to enforce federal securities laws and expressed a desire to strengthen the partnership through the new agreement.
Acting FDA Commissioner Kyle Diamantras said the partnership aims to enhance transparency to protect patients and the public trust that drives healthcare innovation. The MOU remains effective for three years, with the possibility of extension or modification by mutual written consent.
