President Boakai Urges Diaspora Investment to Drive Liberian Growth

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai challenged Liberians abroad to transition from dialogue to tangible development projects during the 2nd Annual Diaspora Conference in Virginia.

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai challenged Liberians living abroad to transition from dialogue to the implementation of measurable projects during the 2nd Annual Diaspora Conference in Alexandria, Virginia. Under the theme From Dialogue to Delivery, Boakai urged professionals to establish practical partnerships in healthcare, education, engineering, and technology. He proposed an implementation scorecard to track commitments, stating that success must be measured by jobs generated and projects completed rather than signed agreements.

To facilitate this investment, the government announced it has begun the process of obtaining Liberia's first sovereign credit rating with support from the United Nations Development Programme. Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan reported that domestic revenue exceeded US$1 billion for the first time in the country's history, with the economy growing approximately 5.1% in 2025.

Concrete infrastructure developments include a new bridge to Côte d'Ivoire, a national electronic payment switch, and the transition of the Freeport of Monrovia to 24-hour operations. Additionally, the government entered a public-private partnership with TAF Africa Global to construct 10,000 affordable housing units, beginning with 500 homes in Bentol. Boakai also encouraged the use of diaspora diplomacy to support Liberia's international engagement during its 2026–2027 term on the United Nations Security Council.
